According to global studies, Finland has better conditions for entrepreneurship than its Nordic counterparts. But these favorable conditions are critically shadowed by the negative culture around risk-taking and individual success. Fear of failure is holding people - and especially women - from starting businesses.
In many ways, it's not just a question of an individual's character. Finland is considered to NOT be pro-entrepreneurship - evident from its unfavorable regulations, taxations and even lack of support and mentorship. Business owners are not connecting or collaborating.
And success, no matter the source, carries a certain negative stigma around the country.
But we have the power to change that.
We can promote a more positive and open entrepreneurial culture with the interactions we have on a daily basis.
Curiosity, risk tolerance, resilience and adaptability are all universally accepted traits among entrepreneurs. These are skills that can be learned - if you have the right examples in front of you.
